Briquette charcoal are made by compressing charcoal with a binder and other additives. First charcoal directly produced from various hardwoods are brought to appropriate sizes using hammer mills. Then a binding agent such as starch, an accelerator such as nitrate and an ash-whitening agent such as lime are mixed with charcoal as minor ingredients until they are thoroughly blended. Some manufacturers also use various types of coal as ingredient. Finally blended material is shaped into briquette shape and dried in ovens making it ready for consumers.
